Tuition

Workshops are held at my studio gallery in Sowerby Bridge at Artemis.

Room 3, 3 Lilly Street, Halifax HX6 3DG.

Access includes stairs, many apologies in advance.

All sessions have a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with lots of individual attention, due to the maximum number of 5 per session. It also means that they can be adapted for all abilities to just enjoy creativity, build and practice skills or be challenged. You are welcome to take as you wish whether simply a time out for yourself, learn something new or challenge your current skills in a relaxed group.

Bring along your own paper, paint and brushes though I can supply if you let me know.

I take bookings on a first-come basis, adding to a reserve list before contacting you within a couple of weeks of the start date and ask for full non-refundable payment by BACS at that time.

UPDATED WORKSHOPS 2026 

Each course (except Drawing Faces) will consist of working on one image over the 4 weeks. The price of £60 includes refreshments and source photographs, an additional cost of £5 is added if you need me to supply paper, paint and brushes for the duration.

• MON 23^rd February 10 till 12 PM – Burano. This small fishing village island in the lagoon beyond Venice is a collection of brightly coloured cottages alongside mini canals in bright sunshine. Obviously there will be more drawing involved but a beautiful escape to paint in the winter months. LAST MINUTE SPACES AVAILABLE.
• MON 23^rd February 1 till 3 PM – Carousel. Some of you may have painted a carousel with me previously but this will be a new image. I like to revisit this subject for the purpose of practicing transparent colour layering and colour mixing. We will be adding gold touches. FULLY BOOKED.
• TUES 24^th February 10 till 12 PM – Drawing Faces. Expanding on previous drawing courses this will be a comprehensive look at proportions, details of the eyes, how a face changes from baby to adulthood and drawing faces at an angle. Mainly sketchbook work to build your confidence and skills. FULLY BOOKED.
• TUES 24^th February 1 till 3 PM – Koi Carp. The image we will use is of several fish in dark water. We will add many layers of paint to build and lift for detailed fish scales. This is an opportunity to work larger at half imperial (15 x 22 inches) if you wish. Due to space the places offered are limited to 4 only. FULLY BOOKED.

• TUES 21st April 8-week course (break during Spring Bank) Observational Drawing 10 – 12 PM. This course is a repeat of the one given in 2025. Many people who have painted for a long time can feel they are still reaching their potential due to poor drawing skills. We will cover many ways of observing and interpreting what you see, in order to find the best method that works for you as individuals. Sketchbooks are advised. £112.
• TUES 21st April 8-week course (break during Spring Bank) Drawing using different mediums 1 – 3 PM. This is a course all about line versus shade, covering many aspects of tonal work and the opportunity to try new things. Sketchbooks are advised. All drawing materials will be supplied, in order to experiment. £120.
• MON 11th May 2-week course – Painting Skies 10 – 12 PM. Practicing the skills of painting wet on wet, a good introduction to watercolour. £30 or £35 to include supplies.
• MON 11th May 2-week course – Free Flow Florals 1 – 3 PM. Practicing the skills of painting wet on wet, a good introduction to watercolour. £30 or £35 to include supplies.

Day classes will be held in August, to be announced.
