Blog #1 – Painting en plain air during the launch of Culturedale

Saturday 13th April 2024 sees the launch event for Culturedale, a year long celebration of all our heritage, local creatives and culture as the borough of  Calderdale enters it’s 50th year. Much of my work over the past few years has celebrated the rich visual tapestry of our area. Many prints are sold in The Yorkshire Gallery in the Piece Hall.

During the opening celebrations today I will be painting en plein air once more in the Piece Hall. Over the last couple of years I have faced wind, rain and hail as well as burning the end of my nose in the spring sunshine whilst painting in and around Shibden Hall, as part of the Anne Lister Birthday Festival. Today I’m hoping to have the protection of the bandstand, at least from rain…..

My previous painting in situ in the Piece Hall was in 2018 to celebrate their 1st anniversary of their relaunch on Yorkshire Day. It was just a tad warmer…

No idea how the painting(s) will go, throwing caution to the wind, maybe literally……
